The beach at Barra da Tijuca is the biggest one in the State of do Rio de Janeiro, with 14.4 Km long. Its clear green waters spread along avenida Sernambetiba avenue and go as far as the quarter of Recreio dos Bandeirantes.

Right at its beginning, you can find barraca do Pepe booth, the most famous booth selling fruit juices and sandwiches in the city and a meeting point for young people that live in the neighborhood. This beach is perfect for surfing, windsurfing, body boarding and fishing from the sand.

It also has many bars, restaurants and kiosks; it is lighted during the night and has a bicycle track. Starting at Avenida Ayrton Senna avenue, the beach no longer has its sidewalk, due to the fact that the region is under environmental preservation rules. In its surroundings, there is the Biological Reserve of Marapendi.
