Rio Olympic City is already reality.
Known as the heart of the Rio 2016 Games, the Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca is the city’s main competition hub. The Parque Olímpico covers an area of 1.18 million square metres, where 16 Olympic events will be held (basketball, cycling track, artistic gymnastics, trampoline gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, handball, judo, wrestling, synchronised swimming, swimming, water polo, diving, taekwondo, fencing and tennis), as well as 9 Paralympic sports (wheelchair basketball, boccia, cycling road, football 5-a-side, goalball, judo, swimming, wheelchair rugby and wheelchair tennis).
After the Games, Parque Olímpico will be transformed into a wide sport and educational complex, aimed at students of the municipal network and high performance athletes.
